The Cancer Registry is a division under the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, responsible for registering all cancer cases in the country, collecting data, and compiling statistics on cancer incidence in Norway. 
We conduct extensive research activities, in addition to knowledge dissemination and advisory services aimed at reducing the burden of cancer.
 
The Cancer Registry also administers the three national screening programs for cervical cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer.
 
Established in 1951, the Cancer Registry is one of the oldest national cancer registries in the world. We have around 200 employees and are located in modern facilities at the Radium Hospital in Oslo, within the Oslo Cancer Cluster Innovation Park, where many of Norway’s leading cancer research environments are gathered.
 
The Department of Reseach has 16 researchers, as well as postdoctoral fellows and PhD students, forming a group of about 30 researchers, supplemented by a research support section. Ongoing research activities at the Cancer Registry cover a wide range of etiological, biomolecular topics, as well as projects on screening, early detection, and prognosis of cancer patients.
 
The section for molecular epidemiology and infection, has an open position for a postdoctoral fellow in molecular epidemiology. The employment period is one year with the possibility of extension up to two years.
 
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a large international project evaluating microRNA in early detection and personalized prevention of ovarian cancer. The study is a collaboration between European and American institutions and is a consortium of international biobanks and clinical studies. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for evaluating microRNA data generated in clinical serum and tissue samples, and deriving algorithms and marker signatures using these data, to evaluate the diagnostic discrimination potential of marker signatures. An additional goal will be to evaluate circulating microRNA and ovarian cancer survival.

Kvalifikasjoner:

• PhD in epidemiology, bioinformatics, or data science with a strong quantitative background.
• Experience with implementation of machine learning methods.
• Good analytical skills are required, and experience with independent analysis of large data sets using relevant statistical software such as R, Python will be particularly advantageous.
• Prior experience working with microRNA data and/or ovarian cancer is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written oral and written.
