The Institute for Cancer Research (ICR), organized as part of the Division for Cancer Medicine, conducts cutting-edge cancer research ranging from basic biology to translational and clinical research. It is Norway’s leading cancer research institute with a strong international standing. ICR, located close to the new Radium Hospital/Cancer Clinic, has currently 390 employees organized in 25 research groups. Within ICR, Department of Molecular Oncology’s main research programs are devoted to colorectal cancer and prostate cancer. The department has a longstanding project portfolio also on other solid tumour types. Their expertise in biomedical research spans several disciplines from cell biology to translational research, including also active clinical research collaborations, and there is a broad range of advanced technologies established in-lab. We are seeking an experienced scientist to join the Department of Molecular Oncology as Unit Leader in Systems Cancer Biomedicine, focusing on computational cancer biology and contributing to developing the computational biology infrastructure. This role involves a 50 % commitment to leading independent research projects and another 50 % to overseeing e-infrastructure, analysis pipelines, data management, and large-scale computation within the Department and contributing to the systems cancer biomedicine network at the Institute. Start up date after agreement.

Kvalifikasjoner:

Formal requirements:

  • The candidate must have a PhD in cancer bioinformatics, and formal education (minimum master level) in informatics and/or cancer biology/biomedicine.
  • The candidate should have proven academic experience in cancer research, including biology, genomics and informatics. This experience should encompass research on common solid tumours.
  • The candidate should have advanced hands-on expertise in handling high-throughput DNA and RNA-sequencing data, databases, and scripting/programming (e.g. Unix, Python, R).
  • It is important that the candidate is familiar with Norwegian national e-infrastructure for academic research institutions.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated experience in training and supervising informatics personnel.
